The Johnston girls’ soccer team was unstoppable during the regular season in Division III.
The Panthers were flawless, going 11-0 while scoring a league-high 85 goals and surrendering a league-low eight goals.
Johnston was aided by sophomore striker Bianca Robbins, who led the state in goals (46) and points (54), and junior midfielder Gabriella Scarcella did a bulk of the offensive damage as well, netting 23 goals and dishing out 11 assists for 34 points – good for fourth in the state.
The Panthers looked primed to capture the division crown, but ran into a stiff opponent in East Providence in the final at Rhode Island College.
A last-minute goal by Scarcella tied the game and forced overtime, but the Townies would ultimately prevail in the shootout.
For their outstanding seasons, Robbins and Scarcella received Third Team All-State nods.
They’ll both return to spearhead Johnston’s attack next season as they take another crack at winning a state crown.
