Alfred “Freddy” Spina, 83, of Johnston, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, May 7, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Evelyn (DePetrillo) Spina for 64 years.
Born in Providence, Alfred was a son of the late Lorenzo and Filomena (Serra) Spina. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War. Known to many as "Freddy", Alfred was the proprietor of Spina's Shoes, which operated in downtown Providence for 47 years. To those closest to him, Alfred will be remembered as a man who loved nothing more than spending time with his family and friends, telling stories, making jokes, and talking about his life experiences.
In addition to his wife Evelyn; he leaves two children, Kevin M. Spina and his wife Karen of Smithfield and Michelle A. Refino of Cranston; three loving grandchildren; Christopher Spina, Matthew Spina and Felicia Refino; as well as one great-grandchild, Giuliana Shanley; brother of Antonio Spina and Ann Lombardi of Warwick, Louis Spina of Providence, Rita Beaune of Cranston and the late Angelo Spina and Josephine Santopadre.
His funeral will be held on Friday, May 11, at 9a.m. from the Nardolillo Funeral Home & Crematory followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in the Holy Cross Church, Hartford Ave., Providence at 10a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4-8p.m. Interment will take place in St. Anns Cemetery, Cranston.
