Best panini in R.I. at Edgewood Cheese Shop

Posted

Cranston’s Edgewood/Pawtuxet communities have been blessed with a variety of quality places to enjoy both fine dining and take-out. Whether it is Italian, Asian, Mexican, Irish, French, American or the best ice cream in town, there are many family-owned opportunities to choose from.

One of the most recent additions is the Edgewood Cheese Shop and Eatery at 1828 Broad St., under the ownership of Edgewood residents Casey and Adrienne D’Arconte.

Open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., we discovered that the charming little cheese shop offers the best and most authentic panini we’ve had since our visits to Italy and France. There are only four on the menu, and we’ve tried two of them, available on braided Italian or as a grilled panini for only $8. Joyce’s favorite is the Casey, loaded with fennel salami and gruyere with a touch of onion chutney, while I prefer the Ari, black forest ham and sharp cheddar with horseradish mustard. The sandwiches come with a dill pickle slice and Cape Cod potato chips. You may enjoy them there or take them home.

They also serve a roast beef and brie with fig jam ($8), the Adrienne and a grilled cheese, their son’s favorite because “there’s no green stuff or anything else touching it” ($6).

Sandwiches are freshly made. While you wait, help yourself to the cheese samples, which change daily, and browse the cheese case or gift baskets on display. You can call ahead at 941-2400.
