Brookdale Pocasset Bay celebrates `Phantom of the Opera Masquerade Ball'

Brookdale Pocasset Bay Senior Living welcomed residents, family members, and folks from the community to celebrate “The Phantom of the Opera Masquerade Ball” last Thursday afternoon in Johnston.

“Each month during 2016 Brookdale properties across the country celebrate a Broadway play,” said Jillian Grant, senior director of sales and marketing. “Given that this month is all about masks and Halloween, we thought it would be fitting to celebrate ‘The Phantom of the Opera.’”

Last Thursday, Brookdale staffers and residents donned masks and wore costumes as people enjoyed Connie Giso and what Grant described as “her wonderful piano playing skills.” She played a wide array of music, with “The Phantom of the Opera” being the main focus.

Brookdale staffers prepared and served Halloween themed refreshments and held giveaways as well. The fun-filled and unique event ended with singing and what Grant called “Phantom trivia.”

Meanwhile, Donna Scucces, a program assistant at Brookdale, was dressed as a bride and wore the same wedding dress that she wore 44 years ago when she was married.

“John” played the role of The Phantom, while Grant and program assistant Kim Stubbs wore special costumes. Grant, in fact, wore a colorful dress – courtesy of a resident – that dated back to the 1940s when the woman used to have gowns made to wear to parties she and her husband attended.

“Some residents made masks and wore them throughout the event,” Grant said. “It was a great day filled with laughter and enjoyment by residents, staff, and family alike.” 1
