Brookdale Pocasset Bay welcomed

For years, Pocasset Bay Manor has been known as one of Rhode Island’s top senior independent and assisted living facilities.

Now, what Mayor Joseph Polisena called “one of our crown jewels in Johnston” has become Brookdale Pocasset Bay, effective last Friday.

A huge, shiny blue banner with white letters – prominently displayed in the facility’s dining room – made the new name clear last Friday before Polisena delivered a welcoming address.

“I am very proud and honored to be here today as we all celebrate the re-branding and re-commitment to the Johnston community,” Polisena told more than 100 residents. “We are gathered here today not as just another business in our community, but as we welcome the management today and offer congratulations for maintaining such a beautiful facility.”

Polisena also thanked Brookdale Senior Living Inc., a nationwide company that offers a variety of senior living solutions and is based in Brentwood, Tenn., “for investing in not only this facility but in our town. You are not only part of our business community, but have become a part of Johnston’s family.”

Ray Maxwell, a native Rhode Islander who lives in North Providence and serves as the regional executive director for Brookdale Senior Living, created even more excitement during his pre-luncheon welcome while announcing that his company is investing $5 million to add more amenities to the property.

“We will soon be installing all new windows,” Maxwell said. “We are going to re-do the parking area, we’re going to add walking trails, and beautify the grounds.”

While announcing that Kelly LaFazia will serve as Brookdale Pocasset Bay’s new program director and that Michele Pelletier is the new sales manager, Maxwell added: “We went everyone to enjoy life here and have fun. We’ll be having more events like today in the near future.”
