The North Central Chamber of Commerce is offering a unique networking night, dubbed “Scotch and Cigars,” that will be held Tuesday evening, Sept. 1, at Tavern on the Water in Smithfield.

The gathering is yet another example of the new-look Chamber’s approach toward creating unique opportunities for people to connect with other professionals and generate leads.

The Chamber serves the towns of Johnston, North Providence, Smithfield, Scituate, Foster and Gloucester.

Jamie Dufresne, the Chamber’s new executive director, said while space is somewhat limited for Tuesday night’s event, there’s room for 50 more people.

“We invite people to come and sample a tasting of fine scotch varieties from M.S. Walker Distributors,” she said. “If you don’t care for scotch, there will be a cash bar available, including soft drinks.”

The cost of Tuesday’s networking night will be $20 for guests and visitors, while all Chamber members will be admitted free. Dufresne, meanwhile, has asked those interested in attending to please register online at ncrichamber.com. That will also help officials determine the actual food count.

All cigars will provided by Mr. Cigar, located at 1622 Mineral Spring Ave. in North Providence. Dufresne noted the store “will bring an assortment of superb cigars that people will be able to purchase as well as smoke on Tavern on the Water’s deck that overlooks Waterman Lake.”

Tuesday’s event will also an assortment of appetizers, including miniature crab and shrimp cakes, assorted pizzas, meatballs with crostini, and a few more surprises that Chef Jeff of Tavern on the Water will prepare.

Tavern on the Water is located at 743 Putnam Pike – Route 44 – in Smithfield and is one of three sponsors. The other sponsors are Mr. Cigar and M.S. Walker Distributors of Warren.

Dufresne also announced the Chamber is now planning for its annual Apple Fest, which is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 19-20, and will again be held inside Johnston War Memorial Park.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day, and special parking – as well as shuttles – will be available.

Area business interested in having a booth or sponsorships should call Dufresne at 401-404-4279 or visit the Chamber’s new office, located at 7 Austin Ave. in Greenville.
