The third annual Dodgeball tournament was held in the Johnston High School Gymnasium at 6 p.m. on March 29. The senior class hosted the tournament to raise money toward their Senior Prom.
This tournament was a double elimination bracket, which contains two sets of brackets (one for winners and another for losers). The winners proceeded forward in brackets, while losers competed in separate brackets to redeem themselves. There were 16 teams total, sporting different team uniforms.
Each team was comprised of four boys and four girls and one alternate player. It was a night of fun as the teams faced off with their classmates, former classmates and even teachers. After Mrs. Alicia McCormick took a dodgeball to the head, Mr. Justin Pimentel was forced to carry the faculty team, "Staff Infection," on his back. However, the faculty didn't make it too far. Following many close games, the final four teams, Cash Money, Johnston’s Finest, Call Us Perfect, and Team Raw, were able to battle it out for the title.
In the championship game, the undefeated Cash Money team, made up of several juniors and seniors, faced off with the mainly junior team, Call Us Perfect. Team Call Us Perfect won the first game, but had to defeat Cash Money twice to win. In the second game, team Cash Money took the win and a second title as JHS Dodgeball Champions. Team Cash Money won the first ever Dodgeball tournament in 2010.
Congratulations to the victorious team of Cash Money containing the following players: Ryan Anderson, Gian Bianchi, Chris Pistacchio, Joshua Ribezzo, Danielle Gawlick, Nisa Villareal, Madison Mansolillo, Amanda Colombo and Julia Carnevale. Each player left the gym with a shiny gold metal around his or her neck.
