(Dull comedy based on TV series)

The good news is we never saw the TV series. The bad news is that Joyce made me sit through this dull attempt at comedy all by myself.

It centers around Vincent Chase (Adrian Grenier), an actor who wants to direct and star in his own movie. Jeremy Piven plays Ari Gold, his agent who comes out of retirement to raise the money for the movie, which is way over budget. Billy Bob Thornton plays a Texas millionaire who sends his dumb son (Haley Joel Osment) to keep tabs of the entourage.

The movie wanders about, caught up in the sexual exploits of the entourage, turning into a behind the scenes look at movie-making as seen through the eyes of producer Mark Wahlberg. The problem is, they are uninteresting.

Kevin Dillon plays Vince’s brother, who can’t act, but is put in the movie anyway, causing dull conflict. Did I say “dull” again?

The movie is loaded with dozens of “star” cameos, ranging from Brady and Gronk to Warren Buffet, Jessica Alba, Gary Busey, Matt Lauer and Liam Neeson, whose role is reduced to an obscene gesture and phrase. What were they all thinking?

Avoid at all costs.

Rated R for Rotten. Profanity, nudity, sex and drugs.
