Ferri wrestling takes fourth at state tourney

The Ferri Middle School wrestling team took home nine medals and finished fourth out of 32 teams in the Rhode Island Principals Committee on Athletics Middle School State Tournament this past weekend at Cumberland High School.

Sixth grader Tyler Madirira was the top performer for the Jaguars with a first-place finish in the 70-pound weight class, an impressive result for a new competitor.

Ricky Rajsasombut finished as the runner-up in the 275-pound weight class. Also medalling for Ferri were Daryl Harley, Francis Deleon, Elijah Burgess, Brad Testa, Kyro Monteiro, Santino Nasisi and Deven Hill.

Westerly won the team championship, with Barrington in second and Martin Middle School of East Providence in third.

The tourney performance capped off a very successful 2013-2014 wrestling season for the Jaguars.

Head coach Mario Nasisi lauded the team for their effort all season and said the state results were a testament of their hard work and progress. The team will remain a favorite in next season’s campaign as only 9 of the 32 student-athletes will be heading to high school.

Coaches Nasisi and Antonucci want to thank the student athletes for their commitment this season. They would also like to thank the student body, parents and supporters of the wrestling program.

“We have a lot to be proud of this season and look forward to the next,” Nasisi said.
