Filling up as prices fall

This was the scene Saturday in Johnston as gas prices dipped below $2 a gallon. BJ’s Wholesale Club, which is located in the former Stuart’s Plaza and now known as Hartford Center, had waiting lines throughout the afternoon as people took advantage of the still-falling gasoline prices to fill up. In keeping up with the competition, Stop & Shop’s gas station on Atwood Avenue even offered gasoline for $1.97 per gallon. The DB Store on Atwood Avenue was prices at $1.99, but that price was expected to fall further this week. “This is a dream come true,” one young women said while getting out of her vehicle to will up her tank at BJ’s. “I never thought I’d see gas go below $3, let alone two bucks.” (Text and photos by Pete Fontaine)
