Fire connects veterans with jobs

To the Editor:

I am happy to report the Hiring Our Heroes veterans job fair last week in Warwick was a great success. Over 100 veterans and military spouses participated, with more than 40 veterans receiving job offers at the fair. This was an increase from last year's fair where 36 veterans received job offers and additional job offers could still filter in.

These Hiring Our Heroes fairs are so successful because employers understand that veterans make outstanding employees. Vets bring with them valuable experience, unique skills, and strength of character that translate well in almost any position.

This year's event had a waiting list of companies wanting to participate. Mayor Avedisian has offered to host next year's event at a larger venue to include even more employers.

I would like to thank the Hiring Our Heroes team that put the job fair together, along with all of our local partners, including the Northern RI Chamber of Commerce. Brigadier General Arthur Floru, U.S. Senator Jack Reed, RI Director of the VA Kasim Yarn, and Mayor Scott Avedisian all helped make the day a success. Everyone involved was proud to advocate for our deserving veterans and their families. Once again, bringing local companies together with local veterans proved to be a win-win scenario. I look forward to another great event next year. Steve McAllister
