Former Knight, Panther Medeiros taking the next step

Former CCRI Knight and Johnston Panther Isaac Medeiros is continuing his college basketball career at Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, N.Y., and is already making a splash. Through his first four games with the Redhawks, Medeiros leads the team in scoring at 22 points per game and is averaging a double-double, with 15 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-6 forward scored 14 in his debut and 21 the next day before breaking out for 30 points and 15 rebounds in a win over Houghton. Medeiros followed that effort with 23 points and 18 rebounds in an overtime loss to Daemen. His team is 2-2 thus far.

Roberts Wesleyan is its second year of candidacy to become an NCAA Division II program, moving up from NAIA. The fall of 2014 is expected to be its first year in D-II.

Medeiros, a 1,000-point scorer at Johnston High School, was a key contributor for two very successful CCRI teams. He helped the Knights to the national tournament as a freshman and averaged 12.8 points per game last year as they finished one game shy of a return trip.
