(Cartoon feature sequel)

This animated feature sequel takes a more serious look at the fictional world of humans and dragons.

Hiccup (voice of Jay Baruchel) is back with his devoted dragon companion, Toothless, living in an wonderful world of peace and harmony. Hiccup and his friends love to race their dragons and explore lands beyond their own. They encounter the Dragon Thief, who warns them of the Viking Army that is preparing to attack them. Hiccup’s father wants him to take over his leadership role, but the young man is still “trying to find out who he really is.”

He finds out for sure as he meets up with his mother who had left him when he was too young to remember her to protect dragons. They team up to stop Drago and his army and keep peace between the dragons and the humans.

There are some good messages about getting along and fighting for peace, with only a few moments of comic relief and the sad death of one of the major characters.

The drawings are first class and the action is nonstop. Throw in some good messages about proper use of power and leaving peaceably and you have a pretty good movie for the kids.

Rated PG, with some action violence.
