It was supposed to be an elegant and stately affair ~ the christening of Princess Aurora, the long-awaited and angelic baby daughter of King Florestan and his Queen. Colorful and enchanting fairies arrive bearing the priceless gifts of beauty, courage, sweetness, musical talent (and even mischief). Each fairy is more beautiful than the next, and the king and queen beam with delight. In fact, the whole kingdom rejoices in the birth and blessing of their new princess.

But just as the most powerful fairy, the Lilac Fairy, is about to bestow her gift upon the newborn princess, the day takes a dark and ominous turn when the evil fairy Carabosse arrives amidst a clap of thunder! Alas, it appears that she has been left off the gift list, and in her anger, diverts her powers to the sleeping babe. In her fury, she lays upon Aurora's head a curse to end all curses! She will let the Princess grow into a virtuous and charming young lady, but on the ill-fated occasion of her sixteen birthday, she will prick her finger on a spindle, and . . . die! Thankfully, the Lilac Fairy intervenes just in time, and though she cannot reverse the curse, she converts the princess's dire fate to that of a 100 year slumber, only to be awakened and rescued by the delicate kiss of a handsome prince. This is the captivating and classical tale of "Sleeping Beauty.”

"Sleeping Beauty" is an age-old story that has delighted generations of fans since it was first debuted in 1890 as a ballet in St. Petersburg, Russia. Set to the unforgettable musical score of Russian composer Tchaikovsky, "Sleeping Beauty" is rich with breathtaking and graceful dancers, exquisite costumes, bold choreography and a timeless plot - it is the perfect ballet, and the perfect performance to bring your whole family.

On Saturday, March 15 at 7:00pm and Sunday, March 16th at 2:00pm, the Heritage Ballet company of Lincoln brings its annual performance of "Sleeping Beauty" to the grand Stadium Theater in Woonsocket. Heritage Ballet's owner, and a principal dancer herself, Patricia Dubois leads her talented dancers, from the stunning Princess Aurora to the breathtaking fairies, the wicked Carabosse, the misguided minions and finally to the handsome Prince, in this extraordinary production. There is literally magic and wonder in every turn, every brisé, every arabesque and every fouetté en tourant. It is an experience that simply cannot be missed.
