To the Editor:
The light of Christmas has shown the way for thousands of years. Despite the foibles of believers and nonbelievers, that which breaks through the darkest times continues to offer hope.
Our present moment is fraught with fear, distrust and feelings of despair. All too often that which should bind us together is used to create a painful distance.
The temporal things of the world are alluring and sometimes necessary, but the sense of spirit that flows through each soul will inexorably find a way to the fore.
We are spiritual creatures residing in human form. While these forms will eventually fade, our true essence continues on. So, for this Holiday Season let us not forget our fellow man. We can no longer escape him than we can ourselves. Joy to the World my friend.
A MOMENT’S RESPITE
Friends gather ‘round a fire.
Foes take a cherished break.
‘Tis time for the holidays,
to celebrate Heavens sake.
Children sing like Angels.
Folks find time to give.
But, remember what it’s all about
and how great it is to live
in a world of opportunity
as others face despair.
Take heed this Holiday Season–
it’s love we need to share.
So, offer a moment’s respite,
in the midst of joyful mirth,
to pray for all sisters and brothers
as we hope for Peace on Earth.
I hope that you all have a wonderful holiday season. This poem is both a gift and reminder. Count your blessings, tend your wounds, but most of all, reach out to others and share a smile or two. When we love, respect and try to understand our neighbors the world becomes a better place.
