The Johnston Lightning girls U12 team won the championship at the Wide World of Indoor Sports this past weekend.

The squad beat BMYSO 3-1 in the first game. The second game against a tough Cumberland team went to penalty kicks, which the Lightning won 2-1.

The Lightning then played in the championship game against No. 1 seed North Providence. Johnston quickly fell behind by two goals but fought back to tie the game and eventually take the lead 3-2. North Providence then tied the game at 3-3 to send it into overtime. Johnston prevailed 4-3 on an overtime goal by Kiley Ahn.

Ahn scored five goals in the tournament, while Emma Salzillo, Jackie Lebeuf and Angelina Derault each added one. Haley Gaunt made numerous spectacular saves to keep Johnston in the games. The defense led by Lebeuf, along with Victoria Marchesi, Sophia Cambio and Jaime Forte, played tough team defense to limit any scoring chances. Ahn, Salzillo, Derault and Jayden Leipf led the offensive attack.
