Johnston football fundraiser to be held tonight

Posted

Tickets are still available for tonight’s unique 7 p.m. football fundraiser that will benefit Johnston High School’s football Panthers.

Ted Nelson, one of four people who have coordinated the event, said: “We welcome any and all JHS football fans – and friends – to come out and support our program tonight.”

Tonight’s fundraiser is titled “Friday Night Lights” and will be held at The Last Resort, 325 Farnum Pike in Smithfield. The unique 6,500-square foot facility has a full restaurant and tented area that can accommodate up to 200 people and is owned and operated by David DiDinato.

“And we’re hoping to fill every available space under the tent,” Ted Nelson, father of Panthers’ quarterback Kyle Nelson, offered. “There will be fun, food, football, fellowship, music and even victory cigars. So please, come out and support our team.”

“Friday Night Lights”, Nelson explained, has also been coordinated by DiDonato, Tony Cimaglia and Frank Nasisi, whose goal is to raise money privately that will benefit the Panthers’ gridiron program for items that the school’s annual budget does not include.

Like most public school sports programs, the Panthers grid gang has expenses that are not covered in the annual JHS budget.

“And that’s why we’re having this fundraiser,” Nelson noted. “We simply want to raise funds – privately – for the Johnston High School football program. The Last Resort is a perfect place for this fundraiser and the NFL Thursday Night game will be on television inside the unique facility.”

Tickets are only $25 person and there will also be raffles during tonight’s fundraiser. For tickets, people are asked to call Cimaglia at (401) 569-2433, Nelson, (401) 231-0615 or The Last Resort at (401) 349-3500.

Nelson also noted that people who’d like to make a donation that will help the Panthers’ football program may do so at tonight’s fundraiser.
