Johnston girls’ soccer off to a hot start

Posted

The Johnston girls’ soccer team notched its sixth win in seven games this season with a convincing 5-2 victory over Cranston East at Cranston Stadium last Friday.

The Panthers were led by Bianca Robbins, who netted four goals in the final 15 minutes, while Samantha Hardman added the other goal and Jordan McHale stonewalled nine of the 11 shots that were sent on goal.

Kelly Castanos and Arianna Cardona scored goals for the ‘Bolts, but it wasn’t enough to keep pace with the Panthers’ offensive firepower.

The win pushed Johnston to 6-1, good for second placed behind 6-0-1 West Warwick in Division III-A.

With the four goals against East, Robbins increased her season total to 12, ranking her third in the state in goals scored this fall.

She’s netted 12 of her team’s 20 goals, while Hardman has added three, Grace Muller scored two and Gabriella Scarcella, Kaylee Lamelio and Jessica Cabral have registered a goal apiece.

In net, McHale has compiled 55 saves over seven games of work.

The Panthers will look to continue their winning ways tonight, when they host the same East team at 6 p.m.
