Johnston welcomes Evolve Fitness at grand opening

Joan Bilodeau has been helping people for years, and now she has 3,000 square feet in which to do it.

Friday, Nov. 14 marked the official grand opening for Evolve Fitness and Wellness at 2225 Plainfield Pike in Johnston, complete with a proclamation from Mayor Joseph Polisena.

The inviting space has been carefully renovated by Bilodeau to give her members a complete wellness package. Not only does Evolve provide expert training, an abundance of classes and state-of-the-art equipment, but patrons will also find various types of massages and spray tans.

When walking into the gym, visitors first see the new Herbalife Shake Bar where members can snag a healthy shake after a work out or massage. During the open house, the Herbalife specialist passed around samples of the shakes while a massage therapist was giving potential clients a taste of relaxation.

One goal of Evolve Fitness and Wellness is to give clients a personal experience – so much so that they feel like family. At the open house, there were numerous clients that have been going to Bilodeau for years, swearing by her Thai Massages and her personal training experience.

“I cannot rave enough about Evolve Fitness, especially Joan. The environment is welcoming, and she assesses the client’s needs,” said longtime client Lori Shulkin Lowinger.

Bilodeau believes in a holistic approach to training and wellness.

“I have to be the best I can possibly be and I need to know exactly what I’m doing … and it just has worked out so perfectly,” she said. “I’ve touched so many people, and it’s been wonderful to help so many people.”

That’s why in addition to massages and trainings, there is also an infrared sauna available. The difference between a sauna most are familiar with and Evolve’s is the infrared technology. For example, the red light makes your heart beat faster, pumping more blood into your system and getting out any toxins. Therefore, instead of feeling cramped, clients feel relaxed as they experience different shades of light depending on their treatment.

Evolve offers a variety of cardio classes for all ages and interests, including Zumba, spinning and a newer type of class called Tabata which is considered a “high-intensity interval training,” or HIIT, process. Participants exercise as hard as they can for roughly 20 to 30 seconds, and then break for 10 seconds. This is repeated eight or 10 times, torching numerous calories in a matter of 20 minutes.

Evolve has also entered into a partnership with the Alpine Country Club. Members of the club will receive a discounted Evolve membership along with other benefits soon to be announced.

Another objective of Evolve Fitness and Wellness is to eventually become even more full-service than it is now.

“My goal is to bring in a dry bar and I’m hoping to have facials here too,” Bilodeau said. “You can come workout and have your makeup and hair done after.”
