Lollipop Learning Center celebrates class of 2015

There were special signs Saturday that showed just how much the Lollipop Learning Center has grown since opening its doors at 2766-B Hartford Ave. in Johnston three years ago.

Ten toddlers, all dressed in white caps and gowns, entered a parent-packed room as the sound of “Pomp and Circumstance” broke the silence of camera-toting family members and friends.

“We’re going to have to move to a much larger venue for next year’s graduation,” said Maria Evangelista, Lollipop’s owner and director, before giving her annual welcome address at the pre-K graduation ceremony. “This is really special for everyone here.”

It was also further proof of how Evangelista – with help from her husband Paul – has realized her lifelong dream of owning and operating a state-of-the-art preschool.

“Wait until this ceremony begins,” said Allison Norato, one of center’s teachers. “All the children have learned their lessons well.”

In keeping with her young but impressive tradition, Evangelista told an attentive audience: “This [graduation ceremony] is a momentous occasion in the lives of all the children. It is also a time to recognize the outstanding work of the teachers and the parents of the students.

“Just looking around, the happy smiling faces say so much about the environment here at our preschool. Our children have learned so much. The school places great value on community, learning and fun.”

Evangelista also told the many proud parents and families, “I’m proud of the way your children love coming to the school and look forward to learning every day. Seeing the big smiles on their faces every morning is fantastic. They love to learn and that skill will help them so much as they progress with their education.”

Evangelista also thanked her valued volunteers and teachers, who have provided the children with strong foundations for the next step in their educational lives.

“We feel very confident that we have given the children a great start in life,” she said. “They have learned many priceless lessons. So, children, take on challenges, be respectful, love to learn, be part of the community, laugh and be all you can be. I love you all!”

The Lollipop Learning Center class of 2015 includes Lucia Maimoni, Gianna Balfour, Alyssa Cairo, Michaela Rivard, Olivia Ciccone, Matthew Henderson, Michael Cuoco, Liam Brennan, Bruno Porreca and Ethan Pomfret.

Among those adults who help make Saturday special were Emily Weidele, supervisor; Jessica Gemma, educational coordinator-pre-K teacher; Allison Norata, pre-K teacher; and Janet Foley, school nurse.
