This year’s Eagle Scouts from the Narragansett Council, Boy Scouts of America joined Lt. Gov. Daniel J. McKee and Congressman James Langevin at the Rhode Island State House on Oct. 5 for this year’s “Gathering of Eagles.”

The annual event recognizes all Scouts who have received the Eagle Award throughout the history of the Council, highlighting those who earned the award in 2014-15.

McKee, who hosted the event, welcomed the Eagle Scouts and their families saying, “It’s my pleasure to welcome these young men to the Rhode Island State House. So many of the qualities that go into achieving the Scouts’ highest rank are the same ones that will ensure continued success: dedication, preparation, strong leadership and a call to service. I congratulate each of you, and applaud your families for the support they’ve given you. What you have already accomplished is impressive – what you have yet to accomplish is what we will keep our eyes on.”

Each Eagle Scout was presented with a citation to honor them for their hard work over the years.

This year’s master of ceremony, Benjamin Matthews, Eagle Scout from Troop 44 East Providence, introduced the elected leaders who congratulated the local Scouts for their achievement.

As a Boy Scout himself, Langevin attributes much of his success to the skills he learned in Scouting as a young man. “Boy Scouts of America is a character-building organization that educates young men and turns them into hardworking, compassionate and civic-minded individuals,” he said. “The Narragansett Council has likewise made an indelible mark on Rhode Island, and I am so grateful that this program continues to thrive and be available for our future leaders. Congratulations to all of the committed Scouts who have reached the rank of Eagle, and I encourage current and future Scouts to follow in that noble path.”

Eagle Scouts were accompanied by their families, friends and local volunteer Scout leaders who had the opportunity to take pictures and speak with the lieutenant governor and the congressman.

“The Gathering of the Eagles is just one of the ways our Council celebrates the future leaders of our community,” added John H. Mosby, Narragansett Council’s scout executive/CEO.  “I look forward to seeing what these young men achieve in years to come.”
