Millicent Elaine Newsham

Posted

It is with sadness, we announce the passing of Millicent Elaine Newsham on October 17, 2013 at the Philip Hulitar In-Patient Center, in Providence, after a lengthy illness.

John O. and Lillian G. (Dove) Brown welcomed her, their second child on November 2, 1932 to join John Richard (Dick) (deceased), her big brother into the family. They lived at 64 Walnut Street, where the family business, J O Brown's Dairy operated until 1963.

While on leave from the Navy in 1949, Dick brought his shipmate, Daniel E. Newsham, a Pawtucket boy, home for a visit and introduced Mill to the love of her life. They were married on November 4, 1950 at St. Brigid's Church, Johnston and their devotion to each other continued past his death in 1994. In her last days, that love remained as she spoke of "My Danny".

Mill managed their business, Newsham Brothers Plastering until Danny's retirement in 1990. Returning to live at 68 Walnut Street after Danny's death, Mill enjoyed the friendship of childhood neighbors, Paulina and Eleanor, reminiscing over a cup of coffee about growing up on Walnut Street. Mill loved shrimp cocktail, chocolate cabinets, night time radio talk shows, a good conversation and QVC.

They had two daughters, both deceased, Cynthia Newsham, at age 6 months in 1959, and Millicent (Penny) Combs in 2009. She is survived by her loving grandson, David Lee Combs; and her precious

great-grandson, Caleb who filled her life with happiness and laughter. Her sister, Meredith Clarke and husband, Tom, of Merritt Island, Florida; cousins; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews in several states; as well as her furry best friend, Angel.

We wish to thank, the nurses and staff at the Philip Hulitar Center for not only their gentle and professional care of Mill but their kindness to our family. And, to Faith, for her friendship to all of us. There are not enough words to express our gratitude to cousin Elizabeth (Betti Ann) Bastiansen, her daughter, Carolyn, and their families for their unfailing devotion to Mill, thank you.

Hoey-Arpin-Williams-King Funeral Home was in charge of her funeral arrangements. Burial was at St. Ann's Cemetery in Cranston.

Grandma, sister, Mill, aunt, cousin, friend, your struggle is ended, your new life in heaven begins.
