Neutaconkanut Hill Conservancy hosting 8th annual Fall Festival

It’s a time-honored tradition that ladies like Elli Panichas are hoping will attract a record crowd this Saturday to Neutaconkanut Hill.

“This is an outstanding opportunity for children and adults to have a unique experience in the only natural forest in Providence,” Panichas, a long-time public relations specialist, offered of the Neutaconkanut Hill Conservancy’s eighth annual Fall Festival. “People will be amazed with the view from the highest point in the city.”

For those people not familiar with Neutaconkanut Hill, it’s a spacious recreation area that includes a spacious park that features softball and little league fields, a swimming pool, and an indoor facility that’s located off Plainfield Street on the Providence-Johnston line.

Saturday’s Fall Festival, as Panichas pointed out earlier this week, will be held in the Neutaconkanut Hill Meadow where people of all age can “have a panoramic view of the state’s capital city and into nearby Massachusetts in an extraordinary forested area.”

Festivities will begin at noon and continue through 3 p.m., and conservancy officials have planned what Panichas called “one of our best fall events ever.”

“The event is free and open to the public,” Panichas said. “This is an excellent event for walkers, hikers, and families to enjoy a unique day of family recreation that will feature everything from Providence fire trucks to the Providence Police Mounted Command and roasting marshmallows on the open fire.”

Saturday’s festival will also include a series of guided walks through the forested trails along with fun activities for the children and adults that will be held in the meadow on Neutaconkanut Hill.

Panichas announced that Providence firemen will provide “educational and fun tours of the fire trucks” and “the children will love the horses.”

She suggested that people dress for walking forested trails and other outdoor activities.

The event is being sponsored in full by the Neutaconkanut Hill Conservancy and the Providence Parks and Recreation Department. Neutaconkanut Hill is an 88-acre forested park with several miles of walking/hiking trails and spectacular views.
