Our Lady of Grace set for Super Bowl-Mardi Gras Party

The New England Patriots may not be playing in Sunday’s Super Bowl 50 in California, but there’s still plenty of interest in the NFL championship matchup featuring the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos.

Interest, in fact, seems to be peaking at Our Lady of Grace Church, located off George Waterman Road in Johnston.

“The common query this week will be, ‘Where are you going for the Super Bowl?’” said the Rev. Peter J. Gower, the Roman Catholic church’s priest. “We’ll have everything anybody wants – and needs – right here at our parish.”

Our Lady of Grace, as Gower announced several weeks ago, is having a unique Super Bowl-Mardi Gras Party that will begin Sunday at 5 p.m. The event will feature fun, football on a big screen, and food for the low cost of just $5 per person.

Moreover, there will be a unique raffle featuring a football that bears the signature of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

“I’m a big New England Patriots fan,” Gower said. “Even though our home team isn’t playing in Sunday’s Super Bowl, we’re planned a special party for all football fans to celebrate the 50th anniversary of a great America sports spectacle.”

Another ball featuring the signature of former Patriots and New York Jets running back Curtis Martin is included in what Gower called a “multi-prize raffle.”

“Everyone is welcome,” Gower said. “Our chairperson, Peter Andreozzi, is very, very excited about Sunday. We’ve tied in Super Bowl Sunday with the beginning of Mardi Gras [Feb. 9] and Ash Wednesday [Feb. 10]. It should be a great night for football fans and their families.”

Those who would like to reserve tickets should call the church’s rectory at 401-231-2220.
