Panther spirit shines at Johnston High School’s Battle of the Classes

Johnston High School’s new state-of-the art athletic complex hosted yet another exciting event Tuesday night – a host of competitions designed to include the entire student body and promote goodwill.

“We call it the Battle of the Classes,” Principal Zachary Farrell said as students arrived at the complex. “What a great night for our students and their parents.”

From the time faculty advisor Greg Russo made announcements over the spanking new public address system, there were cheers – and jeers – ringing into the night’s air, as all four Johnston High classes competed in game-like events such as the sack race, relay, walk the plank and even hula madness.

The winner?

“That won’t be known until the Homecoming Dance,” Farrell said. “All the points will be tabulated ... this is an ongoing type of competition that builds camaraderie among the entire student body and individual classes.”

The night was such a success, each and every seat in the stadium was filled with students and proud parents who created an atmosphere as if the Joe Acciardo-coached Panthers football squad was beating an opponent en route to a championship

“It is also a community event,” Farrell said. “We are thrilled with the number of parents who turned out.”
