Panthers show off their artistic side
Sophomore Jamie Buckley is excited about her sun face sculpture.

The annual Johnston High School art show included sculpture, painting, printing, drawing and ceramic works from students in all grades, along with cooperative installation art in which JHS students collaborated with students at the Rhode Island School of Design.

Students from the JHS Art Program have gone on to schools such as the Savannah College of Art & Design, RISD, URI, WPI and Monteserrate College of Art.

Art teacher Kerry Murphy said one of their biggest goals is to teach students that there are endless opportunities in a variety of fields to be creative. An artist doesn’t necessarily have to be the proverbial “starving artist” in order to be creative, she said. The spark to be creative is what they hope to instill.
