The Johnston High School boys’ basketball team was already sliding when it hit a stretch of three games in five days starting Friday against some of the top teams in Division III.

And the slide continued.

The Panthers lost to 11-1 Mt. Hope 74-42 on Friday. On Saturday, they squared off with Division III-Central leader Juanita Sanchez and led by a point at halftime, but lost 71-56. Freshman Ryan Yankee was a bright spot in the loss with 15 points.

On Tuesday, Johnston faced Middletown, another 11-1 team, and fell 73-48. The Panthers got 13 points from Ryan McKeon and 12 each from Mark Breton and Zach Coro.

Johnston dropped to 3-8 in league play with Tuesday’s loss. The team was scheduled to play Moses Brown on Wednesday, with results unavailable at press time. The Panthers will visit Mount St. Charles on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
