DEBIT CARD FRAUD

Johnston police are working to identify two suspects in the use of a stolen debit card at the BJ’s Wholesale Club at 200 Stonehill Drive.

According to police, the two female suspects used the stolen debit card, bearing the Mastercard logo, to purchase several gift cards at BJ’s on April 26. The women were described as Hispanic females in their mid to late 20s. Both are said to have been passengers in a newer model Honda Pilot with tinted windows and unknown, out-of-state license plates.

Anyone with information regarding the identity or location of the suspects is asked to contact police at 401-757-3158.

DUI ARREST

While patrolling in the Atwood Avenue area on the evening of May 15, Patrolman Matthew V. Leveillee reports observing a red pickup truck – which was traveling southbound – swerve to the right and into the right travel lane multiple times, in one instance nearly striking another vehicle.

Leveillee stopped the vehicle in the area of Brown Drive. The patrolman reports the operator had a “strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath,” as well as “bloodshot, watery eyes.” The man’s speech was slurred, according to the patrolman, and he reportedly denied swerving between lanes but admitted to having had “only three or four beers” at a bar.

Leveillee reports the operator agreed to submit to field sobriety tests, which he failed. The operator was arrested on a charge of suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to headquarters, where he reportedly refused a Breathalyzer test.

John Frank Palermo Jr., 63, of 8 Briggs St. in Cranston, was charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol (first offense) and refusal to submit to a chemical test.

PILLS FOUND

Patrolman Derrick Palazzo reports observing a blue 2002 Chevy Trailblazer traveling north on Atwood Avenue with its rear driver’s side tail lamp not properly illuminated when the brakes were applied at approximately 10:50 p.m. on May 10.

The patrolman stopped the vehicle near Central Avenue, and a check revealed the vehicle was not properly registered and the operator’s license was suspended. The operator was placed under arrest for operating a vehicle with a suspended license.

According to Palazzo, a search of the operator’s person uncovered numerous pills of different “size, shape, color, and identification … which were held in a small folded piece of paper.” A subsequent inventory of the vehicle uncovered “more white oval shaped pills in the center console,” the patrolman reports.

Gary M. Comeau, 45, of 76 Pemberton St., Apt. 1FL in Providence, was charged with possession of controlled substances. He was also issued several citations.

SHOPLIFTING CHARGE

Patrolman David Galligan reports responding to the Super Stop & Shop on Commerce Way shortly after 10 a.m. on May 13 for a shoplifting call. Store management had reportedly detained a party caught shoplifting.

Upon arrival, Galligan spoke with the loss prevention manager, who said she had witnessed the woman in question place various products in reusable grocery bags before passing all points of purchase without making any attempt to pay for the items.

Loss prevention told Galligan the total value of the items in the woman’s bags was $321.

Rhonda Silva, 47, of 134 Anthony St., Apt. 2 in East Providence, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor shoplifting.
