STOLEN WATER SLIDE

Patrolman Andrew J. Broccoli reports responding to Frank’s Rentals on Plainfield Street around noon on Sept. 10 for a report of rented property that had not been returned.

An employee told Broccoli an 18-foot, double-wide water slide had been rented to a male customer on Sept. 5. The employee said the man agreed to pay $300 for the rental and return the slide on Sept. 7, but as of Sept. 10, it had not been returned. The value of the slide was approximately $9,500, the employee told the patrolman.

A warrant for the renter’s arrest was subsequently issued, and on Sept. 19, Johnston officers responded to the Rhode Island State Police Lincoln Barracks to take Michael Silva, 44, of 12 Falmouth St. in North Attleborough, Mass., into custody.

Silva is charged with obtaining property by false pretenses. A probation violator, he was arraigned and remanded to the Adult Correctional Institute on $10,000 surety bail.

SHOPLIFTING

Patrolman Mario Mennella Jr. reports he and Patrolman Derek Parascandolo were dispatched to Stop & Shop shortly after 1 p.m. on Sept. 9 for a report of a shoplifter.

Upon arrival, the officers spoke with an asset protection associate at the store, who indicated a woman had selected groceries, put them into her own reusable garbage bags in a carriage, sit down in the customer lounge for several minutes, and then leave through the floral exit without paying.

The asset protection associate told police she stopped the woman before she got into the parking lot and had her go back inside the store. The value of the groceries was placed at $312.32, and the asset protection associate wished to press charges.

Dawn M. Murray, 48, of 7 Hillside Ave., Apt. 1st in Johnston, is charged with felony shoplifting due to two previous shoplifting convictions. She was arraigned and released on $1,000 personal recognizance bail.
