Man arrested on DUI charge

Patrolman Michael Protano reports being at the scene of a three-vehicle crash on Killingly Street on the afternoon of Jan. 16 when it appeared one of the operators was under the influence of alcohol.

Protano in his narrative report indicates the man “had bloodshot eyes and while speaking to him I could smell the odor of an intoxicating beverage emanating from his breath.” The man was unable to follow directions while completing a witness statement, according to the patrolman, and acknowledged having consumed alcohol earlier.

According to Protano, the man consented to, and failed, field sobriety testing.

Alvaro Morales, 47, of 82 Appleton St., Apt. 1, was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of liquor or drugs (first offense, .15 or greater). He reportedly consented to a chemical breath test at police headquarters, and registered blood alcohol content readings of .197 and .190.

Morales was released with a summons to appear in Third District Court.
