DISORDERLY CONDUCT

Patrolman Michael Protano reports responding to Oakdale Avenue at approximately 8:30 p.m. on May 24 after dispatch reported a 911 hang-up call in which a male party had apparently been out of breath and requesting assistance.

Sgt. Luca Lancellotti was already at the scene, and advised the patrolman that a young male had been involved in an altercation with another party. The suspect had fled the scene heading toward Dyerville Avenue, according to the sergeant, and was wearing a blue or purple shirt with no shoes.

Protano began searching the area with other officers, and after several minutes observed a male walking onto Leah Street from Green Street wearing a blue shirt with no shoes. The patrolman stopped the man, who reportedly could not provide any identification. Lancellotti then transported the other party involved in the altercation to Protano’s location, and the other party identified the suspect as the man with whom he had struggled.

Protano reports that according to the other party, the incident began when he observed a male party banging on his chain fence and attempting to enter his yard. He told police that when he asked the man to stop, the man knocked him to the ground.

The suspect reportedly admitted to Protano that he had initially provided a false name because of an existing warrant out for his arrest. The patrolman reports a check revealed a warrant out of Third District Court in the man’s name for failure to appear for payment on a driving with a suspended license charge out of Johnston.

Elias Cosme Hernandez, 20, of 49 Dyerville Ave. in Johnston, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and obstructing an officer in the execution of duty. He was additionally held on the warrant.

Hernandez was later arraigned and released on $1,000 personal recognizance with a court date of June 4. He also paid his court fines related to the warrant.

ATTEMPTED THEFT

At approximately 11:53 a.m. on May 14, Patrolman Michael A. Martufi Jr. reports being informed by dispatch that a vehicle sought in the attempted larceny of a motorcycle in the parking lot of the Home Depot at 100 Stone Hill Drive had been involved in a “road rage” incident in Providence.

Moments later, reports indicated the vehicle had been stopped at the intersection of Priscilla and Union avenues in that city. Martufi and several other officers responded.

During a subsequent “show up” identification, a witness to the Home Depot incident reportedly identified the driver of the vehicle as having been involved in the attempted theft.

Martufi reports he was then contacted by a Rhode Island State Police Fugitive Task Force member, who said another man seen with Rivera prior to Providence stop had been arrested for possession of a stolen Jeep. The man in state police custody reportedly matched the description of another party believed to have been involved in the Home Depot incident.

According to a supplemental report from Detective Thomas M. Dwyer, a photo line up was prepared, and the man in state police custody was identified by a witness as having been involved in the attempted theft of the motorcycle.

Jose O. Matos, 25, of 75 Abbott St., Apt. 2 in Providence, was arrested on charges of attempted larceny over $1,500 and conspiracy. He was arraigned on May 19, with surety bail set at $10,000. He was held without bail on probation and Superior Court violations.
