SICKLE ASSAULT

Patrolman James Provuncher reports an assault on King Street at around 4 p.m. on June 30. The man who called police said he found a man in his backyard putting his personal belongings under a tree. He said the man was moving out from the house next door and was putting his belongings in his yard. He said he told the man to take his belongings and get off his property, and an argument ensued. He said the intruder became upset and threw a piece of iron at the owner, hitting him in the leg. He said the assailant then picked up a long-handled sickle and began chasing the owner around his yard while swinging the sickle at him. The owner said he ran back into his house and locked the door and his assailant dropped the sickle. He said he went outside again to continue the argument and the assailant threatened to hit him with a shovel as he got into the passenger side of a pickup truck and drove off. Provuncher said he spoke with several witnesses that verified the owner’s account of events and concluded that there was probable cause for an arrest. Bryan K. Debritto, of 132 Alverson Ave. in Providence, was found at a softball game in Woodlake Park around 8:30 p.m. He was charged with felony assault with a dangerous weapon, simple assault and disorderly conduct.

He said he noticed that the driver’s eyes were dilated, in spite of the bright afternoon sun. He asked the driver if he had been doing drugs and the man reportedly said that he “just smoked weed about twenty minutes ago.” Salvadore said he gave the man a field sobriety test and he failed it. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and taken to headquarters, where a breath test indicted no blood alcohol at all. Manuel Jimemez, 22, of 50 South St. in Lincoln, took a drug use recognition test and was later charged with DUI and not wearing a seat belt. He was later released on $1,000 personal recognizance.

A Foster man who was the subject of a traffic stop on Hartford Avenue on June 26 was charged with driving on a suspended license and obstruction an officer when he gave Patrolman John DeAngelis his brother’s name when he was asked for identification. He did not show any identification but did say his name was Jason Decker. DeAngelis said he traced the plate of the car the suspect was driving and called the owner of the vehicle. She said her boyfriend was driving her car that day and his name was Justin D. Decker. DeAngelis said he learned that Justin Decker was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear on a trespassing charge and that his license was suspended. Justin Decker was arraigned before a justice of the peace and he posted his surety bail. The new charges were obstruction and driving on a suspended license. Decker, 29, of 26 Round Hill Road in Foster, was later released on $1,000 personal recognizance.
