BB BLASTING

Detective Anthony Sasso reports his department was called to follow up on a series of vandalisms that occurred on July 28. On Aug. 6, he got a call from North Providence police, who told him they had three suspects in custody and knew of one at large that were wanted in connection with vandalism in their town and may have been involved in similar events in Johnston.

The detective said he spoke with a female juvenile who was with her mother, and they agreed to cooperate with the investigation. The girl gave a detailed account of what happened and implicated her and all of the other suspects. She told Sasso one of the suspects came to her house with a friend and asked her and her boyfriend to go riding. She said the suspect’s juvenile friend then pulled out allegedly stolen BB guns and they proceeded to drive around Johnston, shooting randomly at cars on a variety of streets and at three businesses.

Robert J. Rebello, 22, of 612 Smithfield Road in North Providence, was charged with eight counts of vandalism and seven counts of conspiracy and later released with a summons. Nicholas R. Gray, 18, of 21 Langsberries Ave. in North Providence, was charged with eight counts of vandalism and seven of conspiracy to commit vandalism.

The other suspects were issued summonses for Family Court.

NO SEAT BELT

Sgt. Joseph Salvadore reports stopping a car at routes 295 and 6 around 1 p.m. on Aug. 7 because the driver was not wearing a seat belt. He said the driver turned out to be driving on a suspended license and was the subject of a no-contact order.

Salvadore said the passenger claimed to be a Sabrina Araunalt but further investigation revealed her to be the woman named in the no-contact order, which was the result of a domestic assault case in north Providence. Additionally, Samantha White, 33, of 88.5 Church St. in West Warwick, was the subject of a Superior Court warrant for a failure to appear arriving from a felony assault charge in Providence. She was also charged with possession of a controlled substance when they found her in possession of five and a half Xanex tablets. The woman was taken to headquarters where she was also charged with obstructing an officer and then held for arraignment.

Michael D. White, 36, of 216 Narragansett Ave., who was the driver, was held for arraignment and the car was towed from the scene.

DELAYED BUST

Patrolman David Loffler was dispatched to the Valero Gas station on Putnam Avenue around 11:10 a.m. on April 19 for a larceny from a motor vehicle. He said he met a woman who told him she had her car washed and was having it finished off after she paid for the service when she saw a man enter the rear seat area who appeared to be cleaning it. She said she asked him what he was doing inside her car and he got out and stood beside the car. She said she saw her wallet had been opened and $42 was missing. She said she confronted the man but he denied taking the money and was fidgety and nervous before he fled on foot. Loffler said he was then approached by a witness who told him he saw the whole incident and her story was identical to the woman’s, except that she recognized the man and gave Loffler his name and a description of what he was wearing. A check of the suspect’s address was made but he was not there. Loffler said a check of the suspect’s BCI record indicated 14 priors and an active warrant out of Family Court and two more out of Superior Court warrants.

Detective James Brady reports he put together a photo line up and both witnesses identified the suspect as Shawn M. Roy. Brady said he obtained a warrant for Roy, who wasn’t found until Rhode Island State Police called to say they were holding him at the Lincoln Barracks on Aug. 7. Patrolman Michael Andreozzi reported picking up Roy, 34, of 39 Capitol St. in Pawtucket, and bringing him to Johnston where he was arraigned and then held for a sentence violation and two other warrants for non-support.
