LARCENY

An employee of the Bridge at Cherry Hill was arrested on Jan. 23 for stealing jewelry from a resident last month. Detective Thomas Dwyer said the woman was transported to headquarters, where she reportedly admitted she took articles of jewelry from a resident and pawned them at the Diamond Four Cs shop in North Providence. The woman is said to have told police she saw the rings when the resident was moving in and took them around Christmas time. Dwyer said the woman admitted taking other jewelry from residents of the Bridge and pawning the items, but refused to complete a handwritten statement about the thefts. Evelyn D. Almodovar, 25, of 102 Rosedale Ave. in Providence, was charged with larceny over $1,500 and held pending arraignment.

BREAK-IN

A Johnston woman called police on Aug. 27 of last year to report that someone had been inside the residence she shared with a relative and gone through their belongings. Patrolman Joseph McGinn said he responded to the house and saw that it had been ransacked. The woman told McGinn she wasn’t sure what was missing because of the disarray. She said she recently broke up with a boyfriend and he had been in the house recently with some friends who were helping him move his belongings. She said she suspected that some of the friends who helped him move may have come back when they knew no one was home and ransacked the place. She gave McGinn two suspects and subsequent investigation led to a warrant for one of them. Patrolman Michael Andreozzi reported a call from Woonsocket police on Jan. 23 of this year telling him they had Leo N. Belanger, 52, of 86 Merida Ave., in custody in their town. Andreozzi retrieved Belanger from Woonsocket to be charged with breaking and entering in Johnston.

TRAFFIC STOPS

Patrolman Charles Psilopoulis reports a stop during a traffic enforcement detail on Greenville Avenue on Jan. 15 that led to charges of an expired inspection sticker, no seat belt on the driver, operating with a suspended license and operating an unregistered vehicle. Jessica J. Orlando Rivera, 37, of 18 Hauxhurst St. in Providence, was released with summonses at the scene and the vehicle was towed.

Sgt. Joseph Scichilone reports an accident near 23 Greenville Ave. on Jan. 22. He said one driver gave him a statement saying he was driving slowly down Greenville when another car hit him in the rear. The woman in the car behind him told him that car in front made “an immediate stop” and she ran into it. Scichilone said she complained of back pain but refused medical attention. However, he learned that her license expired on Dec. 31, and she had no proof of insurance. Ambar C. Batista, 20, of 169 Hillcrest Ave., was charged with both violations and released because she had a child with her.

Patrolman Michael Martufi said he was at a fixed traffic post on Jan. 16 when he saw an older Chrysler pass by him with no inspection sticker and the driver not wearing a seat belt. He said he asked the driver for his license and he replied, “I don’t have one,” and explained that it was suspended. Shane DeSimone, 33, of 177 Salina St. in Providence, was taken to headquarters and charged. A relative was allowed to drive the car from the scene.
