MIXED

SIGNALS

Patrolman Michael Edwards reported a broken traffic signal at Putnam Avenue and George Waterman Road around 9:55 a.m. on Jan. 31. He believed that explained why both drivers involved in an accident at the intersection thought they had a green light when they proceeded through the crossing.

“While on scene two more accidents nearly occurred and I observed that the signal that governs the turning lane had broken free from its mount and was rotating in the strong wind gusts,” Edwards wrote. “This would explain how both operators observed a green light as they approached the intersection from different directions … no citations were issued.”

NO TOW

Patrolman Michael Andreozzi reported he was overseeing some tows for vehicles that violated a parking ban on Pocasset Street around 1:20 p.m. on Feb. 2 when the owner of a car that was already secured to a flatbed truck arrived and claimed his car. He was allowed to give the truck driver $82 for the tow and had the car returned.

Andreozzi said there was another car that had been completely buried by the previous storm but the tow driver said he would not remove it because there was a very good chance of doing some real damage to the car in the process. The officer said he mailed the owner a ticket for violation the parking ban.

FIRE BELOW

Patrolman Remy Mendez reported a car fire on George Waterman Road around 10 a.m. on Feb. 2. He said Johnston Fire was already on the scene putting the blaze out as Mendez spoke with the owner. The owner told him he smelled smoke coming up from the bottom of his 2000 Dodge Durango and called the fire department. Johnston Fire told Mendez they thought it was electrical and it had damaged the underside of the vehicle but there was no sign of damage to the inside or outside of the SUV. It was later towed from the scene.

WARRANTED

Patrolman Derrick Palazzo reported he was on Zanfagna Street asking the owner of a 2003 Honda to move it off the roadway on Jan. 31. He said the owner moved the car, but he ran a check on her that revealed an outstanding warrant for failure to appear for a shoplifting charge out of Warwick. Reka Roderick, 23, of 1060 Willet Ave. in East Providence, was taken to headquarters and processed and held for arraignment.

Patrolman Matthew Winsor reported he went to a call for service at Camp Construction on Everett Court on Jan. 29 and learned that the caller had an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in District Court for a simple assault charge. Stephanie R. Matteson, 29, of 6 Everett Court, was later remanded to District Court.
