WIND UP: Brendan Cabral delivers a pitch.

The Hurd Auto Mall American Legion team opened play in the playoffs as one of the final eight teams remaining on Tuesday night at McCarthy Stadium. Hurd trailed 1-0 in the fourth inning to Collette Vacations/Post 79 before inclement weather postponed the game.

The game was scheduled to be resumed on Wednesday, with the results unavailable at press time. Win or lose, Hurd is in action today at either 4 or 7 p.m. at East Providence’s Pierce Field.

The legion playoffs will continue through Sunday, when a state champion will be crowned. The format for the tournament is double-elimination.
