Simmons Village Tenants Association endorses DelFino for Town Council seat

Last Thursday inside Building 341, the Simmons Village Tenants Association (SVTA) met with Richard DelFino III and officially endorses him for the District 1 Johnston Town Council seat.

It was the third such endorsement DelFino III had received since being endorsed by the Johnston Democratic Town Committee and the Johnston Fire Fighters Union. He is facing incumbent Eileen Fuoco in the Sept. 9 primary.

Paul Mantia, the SVTA president, requested the special meeting with DelFino III to inform him of their choice.

Mantia was also joined by Debra Yerger, vice president; Gina Caprio, treasurer; and resident Yolanda Flori.

“We feel that Mr. DelFino is a man of integrity,” said Mantia. “He had great ideas for District 1 and our association members, along with me, wanted to let him know that we’re behind him all the way.”

“I’m honored and extremely appreciative,” DelFino told the association officials. “As your councilman I will always be accessible, especially in the time of need. This is a great and important district. We can all work together to make it even better.”

Along with the endorsement, Mantia announced that on Monday, Aug. 4 beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Simmons Village Community Room located in Building 339, the SVTA will hold a special pasta supper so that its membership can meet DelFino and talk to him about their needs and hopes for the future.

DelFino has also scheduled other events within District 1. On Monday, July 28, he will put on a free pasta supper for the SVTA beginning at 5:30 p.m.

He is also planning several ice cream nights at such places as Allegra Court, Pell Manor and Simmons Village.

When asked about some of his plans if elected, DelFino said he will “vigorously pursue partnering with the Pawtuxet Fiver Authority and Watershed Council in a thorough cleanup of the Pocasset River.”

He also told SVTA officials he would propose a hearing be held whenever the police notify residents regarding sex offenders living in their community.

“The exchange of information is not meant to create hysteria, but rather enhance public safety and community and victim protection,” he said.
