Meet the Easter Bunny

The Easter Bunny will make an appearance at Johnston Memorial Park on April 4 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. For children age five and under, candy will be handed out and there will be photo opportunities. There is no egg hunt for this age group.

Children age six to eight can take part in the Easter Egg Hunt with the Easter Bunny walking around. The hunt will be held at 11:30 a.m. Please bring a bag or basket for the eggs and candy. In case of bad weather, the event will move indoors at the Johnston Parks & Recreation Office from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

At the Mohr

A Cryptozoology program focused on Big Foot and other creatures of myth and legend, geared for ages six to 12, will be held on April 9 at 2:30 p.m. Although the intended audience is teens, adults are welcomed, too.

Coding for Minecraft will be held at the Mohr Library on April 22 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for ages eight to 12. This workshop introduces coding concepts by showing participants how to build or mod the game using the Javascript or Python programming language. The set-up is easy for beginners, challenging for experienced gamers and fun for everyone. This program is sponsored by The Friends of Mohr Library, and registration is required by calling Michelle Greenwood at 401-231-4980, ext. 5.

On April 23, the Mohr Library will present Magic Show with Bjorn the Magician for all ages beginning at 6:30 p.m. Free tickets are available at the children’s desk beginning April 20. This program is sponsored by The Friends of Mohr Library.

Project Chick, presented by Casey Farm, will be held on April 25 at 11 a.m., and participants will observe and touch live chickens and a selection of eggs from birdsranging from the hummingbird to the ostrich. Casey Farm will also leave an incubator, and later on there will be a chance to see chicks hatch and take their first steps. This program is sponsored by The Friends of the Mohr Library.

April showers bring

great networking

April showers usually bring May flowers, but they also bring great networking opportunities. Join the RI Self Defense Center as it hosts its first North Central Chamber of Commerce event on April 24 from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

May 2 craft fair

The RI Dream Center and Hope for the Homeless will hold a craft fair to help supplement the cost of items to fill 500 backpacks. Vendors are presently being sought.

The craft fair will be held on May 2 from 9 a.m. through 3 p.m. at Praise Tabernacle Church, 330 Park Ave. in Cranston. The fee per vendor space is $20. For a vendor application, email sharoncogean@gmail.com.

RI Pink Heals

Annual Ball

The RI Pink Heals, which is comprised of both male and female members of local fire and police departments in support of women with cancer, will hold their fourth annual Pink Heals Ball on May 1 at the Crowne Plaza Grand Ballroom in Warwick.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6:45 p.m. with a selection of one of the following: boneless chicken, baked scrod, prime rib or vegetarian. Dress code is formal/semi-formal with men in Class A uniform or suit and women in gowns or similar.

The cost is $50 per person ($500 per table) with open seating unless a full table is purchased (tables of 10).

Music will be provided by DJ Eric Anthony of Sounds Spectacular DJ Service. Center Food Drive

The annual Food Drive/Feinstein Challenge has already begun at the Johnston Senior Center. They are collecting non-perishable food and gift card donations from March 1 to April 30. Every year, the Feinstein Foundation donates to the center based on the total amount of food collected. This donation from Feinstein enables the center to help even more people in need. There is a collection container inside the main entrance. Gift cards to stores like Price Rite are also appreciated, as they allow recipients to purchase milk, eggs and other perishable items.

The Johnston Senior Center is located at 1291 Hartford Ave. For more information, call 401-944-3343. Food donations may be brought to the center during regular business hours or during Friday night bingo.

Johnston UPS drivers

inducted in Circle of Honor

UPS has announced five elite drivers from Rhode Island are among 1,445 newly inducted worldwide into the Circle of Honor, an honorary organization for UPS drivers who have achieved 25 or more years of accident-free driving.

Rhode Island boasts 20 active Circle of Honor drivers with a combined 541 years of accident-free driving. Congratulations to Roger Anderson III and Henry Curtis Jr., both of Johnston, who are among the states senior safest drivers, with 32 each years of accident-free driving under their belts. There are 416 total UPS drivers in Rhode Island.

Dancing with the Stars

On April 30 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., join Rhode Island Mentoring Partnership for its ninth annual Dancing with the Stars of Mentoring. Eight local celebrity dancers and their professional partners from The Dancin’ Feelin’ studio will take part in a ballroom dance competition to raise funds for youth mentoring in Rhode Island. In addition to the competition, there will be dinner, a silent auction, open dancing, and a fabulous opening number featuring NBC 10’s Mario Hilario and the Total Convergence Dancers. Miss RI Italia

The Miss RI Italia organizations 2015 competition will be held Sunday, May 24 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Providence Marriott Downtown.
