Real Men Wear Pink Car Hop

On Aug. 24 from noon to 6 p.m. A&W Restaurant, 460 Putnam Pike, will partner with the Pink Heals of RI for a Car Hop, with proceeds to benefit the Pink Heals.

Pink Heals is a non-profit organization through which police, fire, and EMT personnel spread awareness of cancer while sharing love, hope and support for all women. They volunteer their time, wear pink shirts and drive pink vehicles to local events and fundraisers. Fundraising for Pink Heals helps with direct care assistance for women battling any cancer, and all funds stay in Rhode Island. Volunteers from the Pink Heals will be serving up orders wearing their pink clothing.

Rocky Point Night

On Aug. 16, a Rocky Point Night will be held at The Imperial Room at One Rhodes Place, One Rhodes Place, beginning at 6 p.m.

Take a walk down memory lane and enjoy the sights and sounds of a bygone era. Play carnival games in our lounge area, walk the “boardwalk” and savor favorite cuisine inspired by the famous Shore Dining Hall. Dance the night away under the stars in the grand ballroom to classic tunes spanning the fabulous 1950s to the 1980s.

There will be a cash bar, and Del’s Lemonade and Autocrat Coffee Milkshakes will also be available. For hors d’oeuvres, there will be miniature lobster rolls, clam cakes, onion tangles, French fries, calamari and grilled pizzas.

The buffet menu includes clam chowder, fish and chips, oven roasted chicken, sausage and peppers, clam strips, potato salad, coleslaw, delicious dessert buffet as well as coffee, both regular and decaffeinated as well as tea.

The admission fee is $35 per person, which includes the gratuity and applicable taxes. All are welcome, and casual dress is perfect for this event. Tickets are available through the Shrine Office, or the Main Bar with a deadline of Aug. 11 to purchase.

Apple Festival Marketing 101

The North Central Chamber of Commerce will host a free workshop for Apple Festival vendors on Aug. 13 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Governor Notte Park, located at 255 Greenville Ave. in Johnston. At the Mohr

“Paper Artistry,” a very special evening of learning, will be held at the Marian J. Mohr Memorial Library from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 19 with Carolyn Leone. Signup is limited, so get your registration in as soon as possible by calling 401-231-4980, ext. 2213.

On Aug. 21 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the library will host Lloyd Kaplan’s Aristocats swing/jazz band. Lloyd Kaplan’s Aristocats has been together for almost 20 years. The group plays songs from the great American songbook in a swing/jazz style. The music played is light and melodic. Musicians include Nat Piccirilly (guitar and banjo), Bob Petteruti (upright bass), Joseph Holtzman (drums) and Lloyd Kaplan (clarinet, saxophone and vocals). Homeless Animals Day and Candlelight Vigil in Cranston

Barbara Morse Silva of NBC10 will be the emcee at Defenders of Animals’ 20th annual Homeless Animals Day/Candlelight Vigil on Aug. 16 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Governor Sprague Mansion in Cranston. They will be honoring fire and police department personnel throughout Rhode Island who have rescued animals. Officers will be receiving plagues from Defenders of Animals. Valvoline in Johnston to support the Jimmy Fund

Valvoline Instant Oil Change customers can help fight cancer from now through Sept. 7 by contributing $1 to the Jimmy Fund through the “A Chance for Kids & Families” program at participating Valvoline locations in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island.

The Johnston Valvoline location participating is located at 159 Putnam Ave.

Free field trip to State Police headquarters

The final stop in the North Central Chamber of Commerce’s free Summer Field Trip Series will be held at the Rhode Island State Police Headquarters. Participants will see the barracks, State Police Museum and much more. All ages are welcome.

Car & Motorcycle Show and Run

The Johnson Police Explorers Post #405 will be hosting their 4th annual Car & Motorcycle Show and Run on Aug. 17 in Johnston Memorial Park.

Car and bike show registration will be from 10 a.m. to noon, and the run will leave at 11 a.m. with awards at 3 p.m. The registration fee is $10 per vehicle show and/or run. Bring canned goods to be donated to the Johnston Community Food Bank. Trophies will be awarded for Judge’s Choice Winner, Best Paint and Bet in Show.

Vendor space is available for a fee of $50, and trophy sponsorship is also available for $50. There will also be food, music, a 50/50 raffle, vendors, a bounce house and much more for family fun. In case of rain, a rain date will be announced.

Artisans sought

The Artists’ Exchange is seeking artisans for the seventh annual Fall Out of Summer Arts Festival, to be held on Sept. 11 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a rain date of Aug. 28. The deadline for registration is Aug. 22, with a fee of $50. The early bird deadline is Aug. 1 for reduced fee of $35. The festival will be held inside and in the lots surrounding Artists’ Exchange at 50 Rolfe Square in Cranston. Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State will be the benefactor of a special night out at The International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport on Sept. 26 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. The Hall of Fame is located at 194 Bellevue Ave.
