Sandra’s Renaissance
The Fedeli family has announced the establishment of “Sandra’s Renaissance – Una Celebrazione di Amicizia” in memory of Sandra Fedeli, a longtime resident of Cranston with a love of Italian culture. She was passionate about all that the Italian culture embraced – its history, language, art, film, music, fashion, food and lifestyle. She had an intense appreciation for all the arts including fine art, literature, music, dance, theater and film, and she was a talented artist herself, having won several awards for her artistic abilities.
At age 36, Fedeli was diagnosed with orbital melanoma, an extremely rare form of cancer, and lost her battle one year later while residing in Italy. One of her greatest life experiences was as a participant in the Rutgers Study Abroad in Italy Program. It was in this program that she cultivated the expression of both art and her devotion to cultural exchange between the United States and Italy. Her commitment to international education will live on through the students who will benefit from The Sandra Fedeli Memorial Scholarship for Study Abroad in Italy. The mission of Sandra’s Renaissance is to grow the Scholarship Fund for Study Abroad in Italy, supporting efforts to allow other students to experience the cultural exchange of ideas while studying in a country with a rich history. This scholarship will provide students with an international experience that will prepare them to meet the challenges of the global community. It will create a rewarding educational experience, while promoting intellectual and social growth.
“She was a vibrant, passionate, and eclectic woman who had a love affair with Italy. She was extremely proud of her Italian heritage, but it was not until her junior year abroad while at Rutgers that she fell in love with the allure of Florence and Italy as a whole. Upon graduation she followed the country that captivated her, and proceeded to lived her life to the fullest while there. We hope to allow other students to experience Italy with the same enthusiasm and passion,” said Patricia Fedeli, Sandra’s sister.
On Nov.14, the family will be hosting the first annual “Sandra’s Renaissance - Una Celebrazione di Amicizia” at the Roger Williams Park Casino in Providence at 6 p.m. The event will feature a wonderful evening of Italian food, wine, art, music, and more. Tickets are $50 per person, and all proceeds will benefit The Sandra Fedeli Memorial Scholarship for Study Abroad in Italy.
