Also at the library, there will be free art classes for adults with Ms. Melyssa. This will kick off Feb. 9 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. For more details and to register, please call the library at 401-231-4980.

Chamber’s Winter Blood Drive

Join in the North Central Chamber of Commerce and The Continental Restaurant as they host their Winter Blood Drive on Feb. 5. The drive will take place 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Continental Restaurant, located at 332 Farnum Pike in Smithfield. The RI Blood Center Donor Coach will be available in the parking lot. Please be sure to bring along proper ID.

Friends of the Mohr

Members of the Friends of the Mohr Library plan and run book sales and carry out other fundraising activities to allow the library to increase services and programs. The Friends welcome new members who are willing to provide support through donations, membership dues or volunteering their time. To find out more, contact the group or call the library director at 401-231-4980 and press 7.

There is an ongoing book sale in the lower level hall across from the meeting room. The Friends also hold larger sales two or three times a year. Great selections at great prices include hard cover and paperback books, fiction and non-fiction, for adults, children and young adults. Most prices range from 25 cents to $2. The Friends are a non-profit organization, with proceeds from fundraising supporting library programs and services.

Donations of gently used books are appreciated, and can be left at the library’s main desk during library hours. Receipts for tax purposes are available.

Call for entries for CABINS

The anti-bullying organization CABINS has issued a call for digital entries from students in Rhode Island middle and high schools, supporting the theme "Random Acts of Kindness."

Winning entries will be awarded cash prizes and invitations to the group's annual gala on March 29 at Kirkbrae Country Club in Lincoln.

Entries should be sent to CABINS electronically by Feb. 6, at entry@cabinsri.org. Students should include their names, schools and contact information along with their entries.

Middle school entries should include a photograph with a quote or caption regarding acts of kindness, using Instagram, done in "meme" style.

High school entries should include a 15-second video, using Instagram, supporting the contest's theme. Videos can include a poem, song or the depiction of a random act of kindness.

All entries must include original content. Plagiarism is grounds for disqualification.

Entries must be accompanied by a signed release from all persons depicted in photographs or videos, allowing CABINS to use those images on its website and social media, and to be displayed at future events including the annual spring gala.

Students are encouraged to use the hashtag, #CABINSRI, when posting their entries through social media, to help spread the theme of kindness.

For inspiration for their entries, students are encouraged to visit www.CABINSRI.org, choose the "Programs" drop-down menu, and use the "Random Acts of Kindness" link.

CABINS will hold its annual spring gala March 29 from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Kirkbrae Country Club in Lincoln. The event features food, dancing and a silent auction for gift certificates, gift baskets, sports memorabilia and other items. Tickets are $50 and available via credit card or PayPal at www.cabinsri.org. The gala raises funds to support anti-bullying programs in Rhode Island middle and high schools.
