TFW West Side hosts first Push-ups for Paws fundraiser

To say that Saturday’s Push-ups for Paws event was a special success would be an understatement.

The unique fundraiser for the Providence Animal Rescue League – coordinated and hosted by TFW (Training for Warriors) West Side, located inside Next Level Fitness at 12 Industrial Lane in Johnston – more than lived up to its billing.

Mike Cronin, a certified training coach who owns and operates TFW West Side, predicted there would be lots of high-fives during the one-hour workout, and excitement was running high with each and every participant.

“We’d be remiss if we didn’t thank Chipotle of Johnston, the Rumford Pet Center of East Providence, PawsWatch, and the Providence Animal Rescue League,” Cronin said. “We also want to thank the people who took part in this charity workout. We feel confident everyone took home something special after the session.”

The event raised $250, and helped raise awareness of the rescue league’s work.

“Today was really, really special for our mission,” Cronin said. “The group learned of why adopting surrendered animals is important and how donations go to medical care and food.”

Cronin also noted that people can also learn how to help save thousands of kittens and cats each year in Rhode Island by using the TNR approach – or trap, neuter, release – and visiting the PawsWatch cat rescue website, pawswatch.org.

“Push-ups for Paws will be back on Feb. 27,” Cronin said. “It will be our way of celebrating Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month, as well as National Spay/Neuter Month.”

Cronin said tickets will be sold at TFW West Side, and all proceeds will go to a large combination of animal non-profits.

Connie Kile, fundraising manager at the rescue league, came to Saturday’s Push-up for Paws and set up a unique display of animal-related supplies – and even had Paxton, a pit bull, by her side while the workout was underway.
