(Final episode)

We’re just about Mockingjayed out with this series about a teenage girl saving the world. The good news is that after four “Hunger Games,” Jennifer Lawrence completes her mission as Katniss Everdeen and can now go on to play other roles.

We meet up with the familiar characters at a crucial time, with poor Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) brainwashed, President Snow (Donald Sutherland) quashing the rebellion, and Katniss reorganizing her followers to form the districts into an alliance and defeat the evil Snow.

The movie is a two and a quarter-hour trek through destroyed cities, sewers and very dark passages, escaping hidden pods of destruction, blown-up buildings, machine gun-bearing soldiers, icky white monsters, and waves of a black tar-like substance, with most of the band escaping. It all comes down to the final battle between good and evil, with a surprise ending that should satisfy fans of the series.

We were impressed by the quality of the production, but are happy we won’t have to sit through another long “Hunger Games.”

Rated PG-13, with plenty of violence.
