Thornton fifth graders come clean at car wash fundraiser
Fifth grader Ryan Benum hoses down one of the many cars he and his classmates and some adult volunteers washed Saturday.

Despite a low turnout, fifth graders from Thornton Elementary School and their families made the best of the Fifth Grade Car Wash Saturday in front of Town Hall Lanes. Led by PTO President Pam Oliveira, the event raised funds to offset the cost of school yearbooks, which are $6 each. By the time the 2 p.m. closing time rolled around, the group had raised $400.

“We did pretty well,” said Oliveira. “The yearbooks will cost $1,200 ... we are selling boosters, too. The PTO will have to kick in the rest of the money.”

Next up on the fundraising calendar is an ice cream social on May 24, which is also the last PTO meeting of the school year.

The actual cost of the yearbook is $16 not $6
