Bei momenti planned at Manton Seniors Italian Gala

If you like dining and dancing, plan on being at Twelve Acres Restaurant in Smithfield Sunday.

If you enjoy participating in raffles to win prizes, plan on taking in the Manton Seniors annual Italian Gala that will begin Sunday at noon inside the famed banquet facility that’s located off Douglas Pike.

There will be fun, fine food, fellowship and music supplied by the well-known Calamari Brothers .

“The food is always great at Twelve Acres,” said Lorie DeVito, who has led the Manton Seniors for upwards of two decades. “And our music … the Calamari Brothers is always a huge hit with out group; their music is always special.”

One reason is that the Calamari Brothers have perhaps twice as many years combined experience as the Manton Seniors who have been around for at least four decades.

The leader is Jerry Jack Rubino, who plays the keyboard and is backed by saxophonist Vinny Lato, percussionist Tony DelSignote and at times that talented trio is joined by vocalist “Spyder” Hagerty.

“They know and play our music,” DeVito said of the Calamari Brothers who play songs that were made famous by big band leaders and other folks that fit the ages of all Manton Seniors members. “Our people love having a nice dinner and dancing.”

As DeVito emphasized: “Our parties are always fun when the raffle begins; our members love the raffles and the prizes and we always have quality prizes.”

Few non-profits, if any, come close to matching the Manton Seniors prizes that include everything from homemade quilts and Afghans, to wine, gifts and food baskets.

So, if you’re interested in taking in the Manton Seniors annual Italian Gala, all you have to do is call Rose Coppola, the group’s corresponding secretary at 943-9332 for tickets that have been priced at $30 per person.

DeVito announced that there will be two dinner choices, Veal Parmesan or Scrod, and the dinners are served family style with soup, salad and macaroni.

Members, newcomers and perspective Manton Seniors, are reminded that the annual Election of Officers will be held on Tuesday, December 5 during the monthly luncheon meeting at the Johnston Senior Center. For more details please call DeVito at 232-2499.
