Bridge at Cherry Hill treats first responders to cookout

The food at Carter’s Café, members of the Johnston Police and Fire departments will attest, is second to none.

The only problem is Carter’s Café is only open one day a year for roughly three hours.

In short, Marvin Carter – the award-winning executive chief at The Bridge at Cherry Hill – treated Johnston’s first responders to a cookout on the outside patio last Friday despite the threat of rain.

“It never rains on the golf course,” said Jen Burns, sales/community relations director at the award-winning assisted living/senior retirement center on Cherry Hill Road in Johnston. “So why would anyone think it would rain on our party?”

With Carter creating another stellar menu, and Burns receiving help from her daughter and summer intern/dining room assistant Daysha, The Bridge at Cherry Hill continued its twice-a-year tradition of thanking Johnston’s first responders.

“We do a breakfast during the winter then host this outdoor cookout in the summer,” Burns explained. “We do so because the men and women of the Johnston Police and Fire departments keep us safe throughout the year.”

She said whenever they’re needed, “the first responders are always here no matter what the need of emergency. We cannot thank them enough for what they do every day in our town.”

So, The Bridge at Cherry Hill treated nearly four-dozen first responders to a cookout that included cheeseburgers, hot dogs, rib sliders, chicken wings and more.

Attendees also had their choice of water and soda and received heaps of praise from Burns, Carter and a number of staffers who know most of the first responders by name.
