Cherry Hill Manor staff get fit to the core

The staff at Cherry Hill Manor Skilled Nursing Facility participated in a CORE Workout and Injury Prevention Workshop led by Daniel Shea of Shea Training and Derek Belise of Anytime Fitness.

The purpose of the workshop was to educate and instruct the staff on the importance of strong core and back muscles to prevent injuries at work and in daily life tasks.

“The program was upbeat and fun, and I feel like a learned how to take better care of myself in easy ways and how to do things a little differently to not get hurt,” said Vivian, an attendee.

Daniel Shea and Derek Belise led the group through a series of stretches and strengthening exercises. A modified version was offered to folks with restrictions.

“It felt weird exercising at work but then it made sense,” added Tanya.

The next portion of the workout specifically focused on techniques to care for the residents while maintaining ones’ personal safety.

“The trainers were very fun and nice and made me feel comfortable,” said Pat.

Shea and Belise demonstrated and had the staff return demonstrate the safe use of equipment frequently used in the skilled nursing facility.

“Cherry Hill Manor is committed to helping staff feel good and stay healthy. We will be offering exercise classes at the facility weekly that will allow staff on all shifts to participate,” stated Katie Gerber, Executive Director. “We have designated spots in the facility to promote ongoing positive health choices.”

Numerous techniques were also practiced related to performing daily tasks safely at home.

“The staff were enthusiastic and engaged and very interested in getting stronger and developing safe techniques,” said Derek Belise.

Staff were given raffle tickets to win gym equipment and gym memberships. All participants were also provided with healthy snacks during the class.

“It’s not often you see a company take this level of interest in availing their staff to the opportunity of feeling good,” said Daniel Shea. “We really enjoyed working with this team. We are excited to provide the on-going training in the facility over the next few months.”
