Dream Big shines at state meet

Desmarais wins All-Around title

The competitive season in Rhode Island ended on a high note for Dream Big Gymnastics of Cranston. Gymnasts of all levels representing Dream Big put forth a strong showing at the RI State Meet held recently at Rhode Island College.

“Our gymnasts worked hard all season and their efforts showed at states,” said Dream Big Gym Owner Shannon Cornicelli of Cranston. “All of our gymnasts from our experienced, top-level competitors to those competing in states for the first time were outstanding. They all did a great job.”

Several Dream Big gymnasts earned a spot on the podium.

Johnston’s Gianna Desmarais turned in one of the most impressive performances of the day. Competing in Level 4, Desmarais became the State Champ in every category - Vault, Bars, Beam, Floor and was the All-Around Champ. Desmarais also received the Jacki Court Award for achieving the highest event score of the meet with a 9.675.

Smithfield’s Ava Maneca had a solid performance competing in Level 7. She placed fourth All-Around and became an All-Star Regional Qualifier.

Cranston’s Sophie Waters-Bruns’s strong performance on the balance beam earned her the title of State Champion. She also placed second overall competing in the at Level 3. Teammate Emily Kodzis, also from Cranston, placed third All-Around.

Dream Big Gymnasts certainly excelled in the In the Xcel Division. Providence’s Lily McGuinness, competing in Xcel Platinum, was the State Bars, Beam and All-Around Champion. She was a RI State Team Regional Qualifier.

Johnson’s Bella Johnson-Viola, competing in Xcel Gold, was the State Bars Champion. She also placed second All Around and was a Rhode Island State Team Regional Qualifier. Ja'Ryee Silva, of Cranston, became the State Bars Champion and placed third All Around in Xcel Gold.

Cranston’s May Evon, who competed in Xcel Silver, was the State Vault Champion, placed third All-Around and qualified for the All Star Regionals.

Dream Big’s Daisy Tenaglia also earned a spot on the podium. The Cranston resident competing in Level 2 placed third overall.

Cranston’s Molly Mitchell earned the title of State Champion for her performance Xcel Bronze A Division. Providence’s Kaylee Cabrera won the floor competition in Xcel Bronze C.

Dream Big’s Kylynn Smullen, of Cranston, stood tall on the highest podium after capturing first place in the Vault in the Xcel Bronze Division. She also placed third All-Around.

Dream Big teams had strong performances overall. The Level 2 squad finished runner-up overall. Both the Level 3 and 4 teams placed third overall. Dream Big’s Xcel Bronze squad took second overall.

“We had a great season and a state meet,” said Conricelli,. “I am so proud of our gymnasts and our coaches who have led them all season. We finished on a strong note. It’s a great springboard for next season.”
