Enza’s grand opening a cut above

A few months ago, Enza Conte Slinko, a long-time hair stylist-beautician, changed careers.

The Johnston resident became what her husband David Slinko – a veteran Johnston Police officer – called being a sub-contractor for some important electrical, plumbing and carpenter work inside the southern end of the couple’s spacious home.

Enza Conte Slinko, who started her career at Total Elegance in the Silver Lake section of Providence back in April of 1992 and quickly moved to the former Fantastic Sams in Johnston, decided it was time to slow down a bit; to down size her sometimes long hour schedule after 26 years working.

And why not, back in August of 2017, Enza and David Slinko purchased the red brick house that sits on the property at 1770 Atwood Avenue, which was also the site of a thriving five-acre farm.

“We bought the house and Enza realized there was plenty of space for a small salon,” David Slinko recalled. “That’s when she decided to open a small, neighborhood-like salon after working 18 years in Cranston and the past nine years at a full service day spa in Scituate.”

When asked if he helped with the construction – or even the design of Enza’s Hair Studio –David said, “Yes; emotional support.”

So, back on Saturday, Dec. 1, David Slinko placed an A-frame sidewalk sign at the entrance to a newly-paved parking area at the couple’s home that read: “Hair for You!” and Enza’s Hair Studio was about to celebrate what turned out to be a rather unique grand opening.

What transpired on that Saturday was a day filled with love, embraces and wishing Enza Conte Slinko – who developed many loyal customers and friends during her 26 years as a hair stylist – well because once the word leaked out she was opening her in-home salon that scheduled small opening turned into a rather large family-like reunion.

One-by-one a number of women walked through the door carrying plants and gifts as well as food. For some folks, in fact, it was like a trip down memory lane at Enza’s Hair Studio.Salon.

So much so, in fact, a number of women kept coming through the door wishing Enza well and making it difficult for her to finish styling her Aunt Rose Conte’s hair.

But neither Aunt Rose Conte or her sister Anna Hahn – or even Steve Brooks who was having his hair cut by Enza’s associate Judy Marsella – seemed to mind the interruptions of love, respect and nothing less than wishing Enza Conte Slinko special success in her new, at-home hair studio.

Enza’s Hair Studio is open Wednesday through Saturday and online booking is available 24/7 at Enzashairstudiodayspa.com. Judy Marsella is also available for hair and nail services. For more information, call 233-HAIR (4247).
