Events to support fight against child poverty

The Johnston battle to wipe out child poverty continues tonight and tomorrow with two unique events.

Beginning at 7 o’clock this evening, Bar 101 will host the fourth annual Ladies Night. The event is part of a national program from Walgreens Pharmacy and coordinated in Johnston by manager Kristy Pistacchio.

Pistacchio, who manages the Walgreens at 1387 Plainfield St., announced a record number of vendors would be at tonight’s event, from which a portion of their sales will go to Walgreens’ fight to end child poverty.

Bar 101 is offering a free buffet and there will be several raffles throughout the event.

“Our job is to raise as much money locally,” Pistacchio explained about the national Walgreens program. “The company has also partnered with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America in its effort to continue the fight to prevent child poverty.”

Tomorrow, Pistacchio hopes to add to her $3,000 goal when “Kristy’s Krew” takes its impressive program to children at Johnston’s elementary schools as well as the Early Childhood Center.

“It’s our fourth annual Red Nose Day,” Pistacchio said with a smile. “The kids and teachers always enjoy this special day, especially since it helps the ongoing battle against poverty that strikes too many children.”

“Many or most of the children at the schools will be dressed in red,” Pistacchio noted. “They’ll each receive a red nose with a $2 donation that will, as it has in year’s past, helped help our national campaign to lift children and young people out of poverty.”

Pistacchio, who announced that people could purchase red noses at all Walgreens stores, said those who would like more information or would like to contribute should go to riindoorkarting.com/rednose-day.
